FANTASTIC NEWS! FARMERS ARMS MUKER TO BECOME A COMMUNITY PUB!
Many of you will have heard of the community purchase of the Farmers Arms. The pub is a vital resource in Muker Parish, acting as both a community hub and as a place where visitors can call in for food and drink. Given that it had been on the market for some time, with no sale achieved, the community decided to try and raise funds to buy it via a share purchase scheme.
The initial community share offer was a huge success. 470 people, far more than was expected, invested in the pub and became part of the Farmers Arms Community. However, the application for a grant from the Government’s Community Ownership Fund (COF) was placed on indefinite hold when the general election was called.
With no certainty as to what would happen under the new Government, a second share offer was launched with a minimum target of raising £80,000. We are delighted to report that this has now been exceeded and the Committee is now able to proceed with the community purchase of the Farmers Arms.
They are also advertising for a tenant to take on the running of the pub. If anyone fancies a lifestyle change, then full details can be found at mukercbs.org
The Farmers closed under the current owners’ tenure on July 18th and the Committee is now in the process of purchasing the pub. It is hoped that the pub will reopen in September. We will keep you posted.
